Learning Arabic is very difficult. It is not difficult because the language is hard. It is difficult because the resources available are very limited. A person who wants to learn English for example will have millions of computer programs, books, free online resources, mp3, ect...

But when it comes to Arabic there is very few resources. I find that to be very odd because Arabic is the most spoken language in the world besides English.

Here is an Arabic channel devoted to teachings the basics of Arabic. Check it out and I hope you learn something.

I like the Byki Arabic program. I paid less than 10 dollars for it. It uses flash cards to help you memorize words. It works good for me.

There are hundreds of lists. Within each list there are some words to memorize. Then you will be tested.

A special girl from Palestine

Aseel who is 14 years old and two of her classmates designed a high tech walking cane to help blind people get around. She was inspired by her Aunt who is blind. She was selected as a finalist in a science and engineering fair which will take place in California next month. She was selected from over 6 million applicants. At first she cried because her family is poor and couldn't afford the cost of sending her. But with the sponsorship of a charitable organisation she will be going to show off her invention. And hopefully she will win. I am cheering for her!

She is planning to become a medical doctor when she grows up. Many Palestinian youth have grown up with mental trauma and suffer from depression and anxiety because of the never ending conflict. Aseel is one of those innocent people who is caught in the crossfire.

She says that we should be using technology for good things instead of for wars.

Even if she doesn't win, her invention will help the lives of millions of blind people around the world. Imagine the reward that God will give her for helping so many disabled people. She will get ajar from everyone who uses this technology. May Allah protect her and her family.

so many people have asked me this question. i was on a search for truth. i read the Koran and because it had no mistakes in it i figured that it must be a perfect book. i don't think a human being could write this or would write this. the prophet Muhammed never got any benefit from his ministry. he was rich and became poor. he was respected and became dishonored. what was his motivation?

Is it ok to see your wife before you marry?

In western superstition they believe that you should not see your wife on the day of the wedding until the ceremony. But this is just superstition and is meaningless. In Islam we cannot believe in superstitions.

The prophet said:
No man and woman are alone together, but the Shaytaan is the third one present.

But it is ok to talk to her with another family member present. Or to talk to her over the phone as long as you are not talking about sexual things. Everything is halal in Islam unless Allah or the prophet has forbidden it. So if anyone tells you that it is not ok to see your wife before you marry her needs to provide the proof. And just in case you run into any trouble here are some hadiths which show that a person should look at their wife before marriage. The prophet himself instructed a person to do so. But you should not be alone with her.

If you have not seen your future wife yet then you must go and look at her and see what she is like. Arranged marriages where neither person sees the other until the wedding are haram.

Here is the proof:

“The Messenger of Allah said: ‘If one of you proposes marriage to a woman, if he can look at her to see that which will encourage him to go ahead and marry her, then let him do so.’... (Saheeh Abi Dawood 1832)

“A woman came to the Messenger of Allah and said: “O Messenger of Allah, I have come to give myself to you (in marriage).” The Messenger of Allah looked at her closely, then he lowered his head. When the woman saw that he had not made a decision about her, she sat down. One of his Companions stood up and said, O Messenger of Allah, if you do not want her, then marry her to me…’” (al-Bukhaari, 7/19; Muslim, 4/143)

Our main goal is to get the youth doing something for the ummah. And we hope that inshallah it turns out successful.

Pretty much our competition involves the youth from ages 12-19 from around the world. We're also trying to raise money for big prizes and advertising. Although we might be seen as just a group of teenage girls in the middle east, we are very ambitious in waking up the youth and getting them to do more for islam.

If you eat meat that is not halal then you are committing a sin. Many Muslims have said that your acts of worship will not be accepted for forty days. However I have never seen the proof for this. There however a hadith which says that if you drink Alcohol then your acts of worship will not be accepted for forty days. This hadith is specific to alcohol.

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Every body that is nourished with haraam things, the Fire is more befitting for it.” Narrated by al-Tabaraani; classed as saheeh by Shaykh al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Jaami’ (4519)

Surah 5:3 Forbidden to you (for food) are: dead meat, blood, the flesh of swine, and that on which hath been invoked the name of other than Allah. that which hath been killed by strangling, or by a violent blow, or by a headlong fall, or by being gored to death; that which hath been (partly) eaten by a wild animal; unless ye are able to slaughter it (in due form); that which is sacrificed on stone (altars); (forbidden) also is the division (of meat) by raffling with arrows: that is impiety. This day have those who reject faith given up all hope of your religion: yet fear them not but fear Me. This day have I perfected your religion for you, completed My favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion. But if any is forced by hunger, with no inclination to transgression, Allah is indeed Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful.

It is only permissible to eat meat from animals that has been treated well during it's life and slaughtered in the appropriate manner. For example the knife must be sharp so that the animal does not feel much pain, and there are many rules such as this.

So if you are eating animals that were killed in a bad way or abused then you will have to give an account for that.

If it was an accident then Allah will not punish you for that but you must make sure you do your best to be aware of what you are putting in your body.

There was a Companion of the prophet who was on a journey with his servant. He told the servant that he will ride for a while and then the servant will ride for a while and then nobody will ride for a while so that the animal has a chance to rest. the companion told his servant that they would be questioned about the animal.

If we abuse animals then we will be questioned about why we did it. There was a lady who was sentenced to hell for torturing a cat. So imagine your punishment for eating meat from an animal that was abused. You are supporting the industry which doesn't give animals their rights.

So I hope that you have a good excuse when you are questioned about this.

Also note that many scholars have said that meat in Christian countries is halal for Muslims unless you find out that the animal was abused or killed in a bad way.

In our community the Imam has investigated many slaughter houses to ensure that the animals are treated properly.

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Allaah will forgive my ummah for their mistakes, and for what they forget, and for what they are forced to do.” (Reported by Ibn Maajah, 2033; see also Saheeh al-Jaami’, 1731).

1, Sunni means someone who follows the Sunnah of the prophet. Therefore every Muslim should be considered Sunni by definition of the word. However this word today has been used to describe a sect within the Muslim Ummah. Sunnies represent about 90 percent of all Muslims in the world. Sunnies believe that Abu Bakr, Umar and many others from the companions were righteous people. The Shia who represent the second largest sect of Muslims believe that many of the companions were hypocrites and toke leadership of the ummah when the leadership was owed to someone else. Therefore hadiths that are narrated from many of the companions are accepted by Sunnies and rejected by the Shia. For example the Shia will not except a hadith that was narrated by Umar.

So based on this information I am a Sunni. the reason I am a Sunni is because I believe that the companions were righteous people. Specifically Abu Bakr and Umar, I believe to be righteous people. I do not believe that they were hypocrites.

There are actually hundreds of Schools of thought but 4 of them became the most popular.

Allah tells us many times in the Koran not to be divided. So this is why I am just a Muslim and that is good enough for me.

The prophet and his companions were not Hanifees or Shafies so why should I be?

2, Wahab means the bestower. So to call someone a Wahabi is not right because you are saying they are like the bestower. They are called this because they were influenced by the teachings of Abdul Wahab. His name means the slave of the bestower. He wanted to study all the schools of thought. However his father told him just to stick to one school of thought. But he didn't feel that was right and he wanted to learn from all of them. Many people agreed with him. There have been books written by him which focus on the main issue within Islam which is Tawheed. This seems to be his focus; to teach Tawheed. So to better understand him I think it is beneficial to read his books.

Today many of those who are labeled as Wahabi study the 4 popular schools of thought. They also study the works of many other scholars. We know that all humans make mistakes and therefore it is more logical to listen to multiple scholars.

I like them. They seem to be good people.

If anyone tells you something regarding religion they must provide the proof. We all make mistakes and therefore the person who makes a statement must show the proof. I have got into the habit of asking for proof. With anyone who tells me anything, I like to say; what is the proof?

As I understand the Tabligh group came from India and was a movement to reform the Muslims. I think Tabligh are very nice people. I like spending time with them. As far as I know it is fine to create a group for a specific purpose.

Surah 3:104 Let there arise out of you a band of people inviting to all that is good, enjoining what is right, and forbidding what is wrong...

I just don't like it when groups argue too much over who is right and who is wrong. I think you have to weight the pros and cons of each group before you associate with them. Maybe Tabligh is good for you or maybe it isn't.

I admire their hard work and dedication. I prefer not to join any group.

The best way to help me is for you to be a good Muslims. the prophet said that the best dawah is to be the best of examples.

Mixed Marriage?

The prophet married from different tribes and cultures according to a Sheikh i was listening to. He married a girl from Ethiopia which would have been black and he also married a girl from the tribe of Israel.

So if the prophet did this then there is no harm for us to do this.

It has become the custom today that people in the middle east will only marry for status and to improve their standing in the community.

Volume 7, Book 62, Number 27:
Narrated Abu Huraira:
The Prophet said, "A woman is married for four things, i.e., her wealth, her family status, her beauty and her religion. So you should marry the religious woman (otherwise) you will be a losers.

The prophet said to marry for Religion. We should not marry based on family, wealth or beauty.

If you look at Middle Eastern culture they are only concerned about marrying for wealth, beauty and family. They care about the 3 things which do not matter in the after life.

But when I was in the Middle East I did see many mixed marriages as well although it was not the norm. I think it is more beneficial to have a mixed marriage because it brings people together.

We should be guided by our religion and not by our culture. It is ok to have your own culture but the religion must come first.

Muslim Name?

Answer =

Assalamu alaikum. The reason I never changed my name after becoming Muslim is because the companions of the prophet kept their names after becoming Muslim. For example Khadijah had the same name before and after Islam. Bilal had the same name before and after Islam.

There is only 2 situation where someone should change their name when reverting to Islam.

1, If it is a religious name for some other religion. For example if I was named after a Greek god or a Hindu god.

2, If it is a negative name then it should be changed. For example the prophet asked a girl what her name was. She said that her name was "ugly". so the prophet told her that her name is not "ugly" and that her name is "beautiful".

Other than those two situation there is no requirement to change your name.

If a person wants to change their name then it is ok to do so. But we cannot make it obligatory on people.

I don't know what a Muslim name is??? If by Muslim name people mean halal name, then my name is a Muslim name.

Is Shrimp Permissible to eat?

Yes it is permissible to eat shrimp. All sea life is permissible to eat unless there is some harm in doing so. For example some sea life such as blow fish can be poisonous. If there is no harm in eating it then it is permissible.

Surah 5:96 Lawful to you is the pursuit of water-game and its use for food...

Frogs are not permitted to eat according to the scholars because they said that the prophet forbid the killing of frogs. We are not permitted to eat dead animals that died on there own or animals that are still alive.

Everything is permissible unless there is a prohibition against it.

Where to Buy a Koran in English?

A Koran can be purchased from most book stores. However please keep in mind that most of the Korans sold in these book stores are translated by non-Muslims or in some cases even Christians.

It is very odd that popular book stores do not carry the most popular Koran translations. When I shop at these stores I can only find Korans that are translated by people that I have never heard of. Is this a conspiracy? I think so.

You can also buy a Koran online. But what you might want to do is go to a local mosque and ask for one. Just do an internet search for mosques in your area.

If you feel shy about visiting a mosque then you can call. Their number should be listed in the directory. This way you can also make contact with some good people that can answer any questions that you have.

Suicide Attacks Against the West

First lets understand that we are to blame for our present situation. If Muslims were united then we would not have the problems that we have today.

An Islamic country must have an official military to protect against foreign and domestic enemies. The soldiers within the military should make sure that they do not transgress the limits established by Allah. Soldiers at war must avoid harming the land, trees, and animals. Soldiers are forbidden from attacking women, children, and old people. Soldiers cannot attack people who are not involved in the conflict. Peaceful people must be given safety and security even in a time of war.

Islam is a compassionate and merciful religion and it is a shame that some Muslims give Islam a bad name.

Surah 6:151 ...Whether open or secret; take not life, which Allah hath made sacred, except by way of justice and law...

Bukhari Volume 4, Book 52, Number 258:
Narrated Ibn 'Umar: During some of the Ghazawat of Allah's Apostle a woman was found killed, so Allah's Apostle forbade the killing of women and children.

BukhariVolume 4, Book 52, Number 257:
Narrated 'Abdullah: During some of the Ghazawat of the Prophet a woman was found killed. Allah's Apostle disapproved the killing of women and children.

In addition to this we should not blame western countries for the downfalls of the Muslims. We should point the finger at ourselves first. We should take responsibility for our own mistakes and correct them before we point the finger at anyone else.

A lot of Americans and westerners don't understand the political situation in the world today. They don't know why other nations dislike them. Here is a video to briefly describe what is fueling a lot of the anger against the west. I think if Americans knew what was happening then they would probably work hard for positive change.

Noah's flood

Based on my research there is no Ayah of Koran or any hadith to suggest that Noah's flood covered the whole earth. Allah says in the Koran that it was a flood. So this is the only thing we know. We know there was a flood but we don't know how big it was.

Surah 7:64 But they rejected him, and We delivered him, and those with him, in the Ark: but We overwhelmed in the flood those who rejected Our signs. They were indeed a blind people!

Surah 10:73 They rejected Him, but We delivered him, and those with him, in the Ark, and We made them inherit (the earth), while We overwhelmed in the flood those who rejected Our Signs. Then see what was the end of those who were warned (but heeded not)!

Surah 11:37 "But construct an Ark under Our eyes and Our inspiration, and address Me no (further) on behalf of those who are in sin: for they are about to be overwhelmed (in the flood)."

There are a few more Ayah similar to these ones but none of them indicate a worldwide flood. As a Muslim we must believe that a flood happened however we are not required to believe that it covered the entire earth.

Many cultures around the world have recorded this event and therefore it was likely a big flood. Christian creationists have show sea fossils on the top of huge mountains. Scientists have indicated that there is not enough water on earth to cover the whole thing. So a number of possibilities exist. For example maybe the water has sunk down to the center of the earth or evaporated into space some how. Perhaps at the time of Noah peace be upon him there was enough water. Only Allah knows.

Christian creationists believe that the mountains were formed later and that is why they have the sea fossils on them and therefore there would be enough water to cover the earth.

Personally I believe that it was a local flood only.

Combining the prayer Sunni vs Shia

Book 004, Number 1515:

Ibn 'Abbas reported: The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) observed the noon and afternoon prayers together, and the sunset and Isha' prayers together without being in a state of fear or in a state of journey.

Book 004, Number 1516:

Ibn 'Abbas reported: The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) observed the noon and afternoon prayers together in Medina without being in a state of fear or in a state of journey. (Abu Zubair said: I asked Sa'id [one of the narrators] why he did that. He said: I asked Ibn 'Abbas as you have asked me, and he replied that he [the Holy Prophet] wanted that no one among his Ummah should be put to [unnecessary] hardship.)

Book 004, Number 1517:

Ibn 'Abbas reported that the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) combined the prayers as he set on a journey in the expedition to Tabuk. He combined the noon prayer with the afternoon prayer and the sunset prayer with the 'Isha' prayer. Sa'id (one of the rawis) said to Ibn 'Abbas: What prompted him to do this? He said: He wanted that his Ummah should not be put to (unnecessary) hardship.

Book 004, Number 1518:

Mu'adh reported: We set out with the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) on the Tabuk expedition, and he observed the noon and afternoon prayers together and the sunset and 'Isha' prayers together.

Book 004, Number 1519:

Mu'adh b. Jabal reported: The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) combined in the expedition to Tabuk the noon prayer with the afternoon prayer and the sunset prayer with the 'Isha' prayer. He (one of the narrators) said: What prompted him to do that? He (Mu'adh) replied that he (the Holy Prophet) wanted that his Ummah should not be put to (unnecessary) hardship.

Book 004, Number 1520:

Ibn 'Abbas reported that the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) combined the noon prayer with the afternoon prayer and the sunset prayer with the 'Isha' prayer in Medina without being in a state of danger or rainfall. And in the hadith transmitted by Waki' (the words are):" I said to Ibn 'Abbas: What prompted him to do that? He said: So that his (Prophet's) Ummah should not be put to (unnecessary) hardship." And in the hadith transmitted by Mu'awiya (the words are):" It was said to Ibn 'Abbas: What did he intend thereby? He said he wanted that his Ummah should not be put to unnecessary hardship."

Book 004, Number 1521:

Ibn 'Abbas reported: I observed with the Apostle of Allah (may peace be upon him) eight (rak'ahs) in combination, and seven rak'ahs in combination. I (one of the narrators) said: O Abd Sha'tha', I think that he (the Holy Prophet) had delayed the noon prayer and hastened the afternoon prayer, and he delayed the sunset prayer and hastened the 'Isha' prayer. He said: I also think so.

Book 004, Number 1522:

Ibn 'Abbas reported that the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) observed in Medina seven (rak'ahs) and eight (rak'ahs), i. e. (be combined) the noon and afternoon prayers (eight rak'ahs) and the sunset and 'Isha' prayers (seven rak'ahs).

Book 004, Number 1523:

'Abdullah b. Shaqiq reported: Ibn 'Abbas one day addressed us in the afternoon (after the afternoon prayer) till the sun disappeared and the stars appeared, and the people began to say: Prayer, prayer. A person from Banu Tamim came there. He neither slackened nor turned away, but (continued crying): Prayer, prayer. Ibn 'Abbas said: May you be deprived of your mother, do you teach me Sunnah? thank you so much for your question. women must dress in a modest way. she may expose her face and hands. she does this to guard her modesty and dignity.

she wears it to be known that she is off limits. when men see a woman in hijab it is unlikely that they will harass her or try to get with her. the man will go after an easier target if his intentions are just physical. his will probably not waste his time flirting with a girl in hijab. he will go after an easy target. in this way the hijab liberates a woman.

when you see pictures of the virgin Marry in Christian art, is she wearing the hijab??? yes she is. why? the virgin Marry is wearing it. hhhmmmmmm. if you were to paint a picture of her with no hijab the Christians would be very upset. they would be upset because this painting would not be presenting her in a respectful, dignified way.

so women wear the hijab to be like Mary. they want to be seen as someone of purity, respect, honor and beauty.

men are sexually driver and when they see half naked women this is likely to incite them. would you like your husband to look at half naked women? do you want women in bikinis walking in front of your husband? or would you prefer to live in a society of modestly where your husband can not look at a woman's body even if he wants to?

but why don't men have to wear it? women are different when it comes to the laws of attraction. women normally are attracted for emotional reasons. but men also have a dress code in Islam. however the dress code is different for a man. and a man must dress in a modest way also. men have a dress code and women have a dress code in Islam. the dress codes are based on the differences between us.

remember something. animals walk around naked. animals don't wear clothes. if we are animals then there is nothing wrong with us walking around naked. but we are not animals. we have more dignity than that.

both men and women should dress in a way that promotes virtue and not in a way that promotes vice.

so why can't a woman lead the prayer? if she is leading the prayer that means that men are behind her. if men are behind her then when she bends over to prostrate what will happen. the men will be distracted from their prayers. do you want your husband to pray behind a woman that is bending over in front of him? this is why women pray behind the men. women also have a sexy voice. and if she is reciting Koran maybe the men would be thinking about her beautiful voice instead of the prayer.

because God made men and women different we also have different roles in the society, different roles in family life, and different benefits for each of us.

our differences make us strong when we are united.

Insulting the prophet

What is the best reaction for us to have? We should be angry. And we must try to change it with our hand. If we can’t change it with our hand then we must speak out against it. If we cannot speak out against it then we must hate it in our hearts. And if we only hate it in our hearts and don’t do anything then we are very weak

The Prophet said: If one of you sees something evil he should change it with his hand. If he cannot, he should speak out against it, and if he cannot do even that he should at least detest it in his heart, this being the weakest form of faith (Sahih of Muslim)

But we must be forgiving for those who don’t know better

The media has never been the friend of the Muslims. In the time of the prophet peace be upon him they used to write poetry against Islam and the Muslims. When the prophet peace be upon him was in Mecca during the first part of his prophethood, the people used to insult him by asking him stupid questions to try and embarrass him in front of others. For example when the prophet went to Jerusalem in one night by the will of Allah, the pagans were insulting him and saying that this is impossible. They asked him questions about the mosque there because they knew that he had never been there his whole life. They grew up around him and knew about the places that he had traveled to and been to. So they knew that he would not know about the mosque in Jerusalem that he claimed to have visited. Of course the prophet was able to answer their questions which amazed and astonished them.

Another example of insulting behavior is when the prophet was praying some men dumped a bucket of camel guts on his back. I can’t think of a worse insult than this. This is insulting the prophet and also insulting the religion that he brought.

Another time there was a lady who used to put garbage on the door step of the prophet as a way to insult him. Everyday he made it his habit to clean the door step until one day there was no garbage. He discovered that the lady was sick and not able to put garbage on his door step in the morning. He went to visit her and she became Muslim.

Another time he went to a place and they throw stones at him. He was heartbroken. An angel came to him and said that on each side of these mountains are angels, and they will push the mountains together and crush the people for what they did. All you have to do is say the word. Prophet Muhammed peace be upon him said he doesn’t want that because maybe one day they will become Muslims. Imagine after this insulting behavior to the point where they threw stones at him and he says to forgive them. Now today this area is 100 percent Muslim. Alhumdulilah

As Muslims we love all the prophets. We love them like we love our family. If it’s true that we love Allah then we will love those who are chosen by Allah. Allah sent prophets to all nations and tribes and these people were the best of example. If someone publishes cartoons or pictures of our family members in the newspaper to publicly insult them, then this will make us very angry. Imagine if your mother or father was in the news paper. Or imagine someone was writing an article about your sister or daughter to insult her and humiliate her publicly. Would this make you angry? Of course. If it doesn’t make you angry then I question whether or not you truly love them. So the Muslim who puts God first in their life will become very very angry at anyone who insults the prophets.

Bukhari Volume 6, Book 60, Number 146:Narrated Ibn Abbas:
Some people were asking Allah's Apostle questions mockingly. A man would say, "Who is my father?" Another man whose she-camel had gone astray would say, "Where is my she-camel? "So Allah revealed this Verse in this connection: "O you who believe! Ask not about things which, if made plain to you, may cause you trouble."

Bukhari Volume 5, Book 57, Number 104:Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Amr:
Allah's Apostle neither talked in an insulting manner nor did he ever speak evil intentionally. He used to say, "The most beloved to me amongst you is the one who has the best character and manners."

Surah 15:11 But never came an apostle to them but they mocked him.

Surah 61:5 And remember, Moses said to his people: "O my people! why do you vex and insult me, though you know that I am the apostle of Allah (sent) to you?" Then when they went wrong, Allah let their hearts go wrong. For Allah guides not those who are rebellious transgressors.

In conclusion, this insulting behavior must be changed, or at least we must speak out against it or if we are too pathetic that we can’t even do that then we should hate it in our hearts. However if they don’t know better then we should be forgiving. The person who insults Islam or any prophet should apologize for their bad manners and intolerance towards the beliefs of others.

these hadeeths are clear. insulting is not allowed and it is even a Characteristic of a hypocrite. we should speak good or keep quiet.

Assalamu alaikum, thanks for the question. i think most people are wanting to know the answer or find a solution to the problem in Gaza. therefore the people are looking to our leaders to bring positive change

keep in mind that Allah allows fitna so that they turn back to him. and also that life is a test for us

i don't think we should focus on what the government should be doing. we should be focusing on ourselves. what can you do to help the brothers and sisters in Gaza? what can i do? what can our friends do? i wrote letters to the government in Canada and alhudulilah i got a response from one of the parties. but i do not expect them to do anything except give me lipservice. if you are a member of the government then i think it would be beneficial to work within the established systems to try and do what you can

i think that the most needed thing is a peace treaty and also to deal with the extreem poverty. so anyone that can help with those two things should help. whether they are a member of government or not

of course the only permenant solution is to return to our religion so that Allah will lift the humiliation that is on us. so anything you do for Islam will ultimatly help all our brothers and sisters. if the Musjid was full during fajr, if an Imam had the same level of respect as a doctor, if we spent more time studying than we do having fun, ect... then the fitna would shrink until it is gone

remember that Allah will never change the condition of a people until they change themselves first. this fitna will keep increasing until we change ourselves and we need to put the blame on ourselves because we are the reason for their suffering. it is not the fault of America or Israel. it is our fault and we should only blame ourselves. we should take responsibility for our downfalls and fix them

Beggars

the prophet said: "It is unlawful to give charity to a rich person or to a fit, well-built one." [An-Nasaa'ee and Abu Daawood]

it is a sin to give charity to someone who doesn't need it. give to those who are truly in need. you have the obligation to care for you brothers and sister that they are properly clothed and well fed. it is an obligation to help them. but what about a person who doesn't need your charity

if i had the power i would punish people severely who beg for money unless they are truely poor. if i was a ruler i would have the police arrest beggars and then i would personally go to their homes of these beggars and examine their property to see if they are lying. we live in a time when there are beggars who ask for money so they can afford alcohol and drugs. we live in a time when people will lie about being poor so that they can take advantage of the generousity of the kind hearted. so the generous kind people give to them rather than to those who are truly in need. if someone begs you then give them food to eat. if they need something like clothes then go and buy the clothes for them

Abu Dawud Book 9, Number 1637: Narrated Anas ibn Malik:

A man of the Ansar came to the Prophet (peace_be_upon_him) and begged from him. He (the Prophet) asked: Have you nothing in your house? He replied: Yes, a piece of cloth, a part of which we wear and a part of which we spread (on the ground), and a wooden bowl from which we drink water.

He said: Bring them to me. He then brought these articles to him and he (the Prophet) took them in his hands and asked: Who will buy these? A man said: I shall buy them for one dirham. He said twice or thrice: Who will offer more than one dirham? A man said: I shall buy them for two dirhams.

He gave these to him and took the two dirhams and, giving them to the Ansari, he said: Buy food with one of them and hand it to your family, and buy an axe and bring it to me. He then brought it to him. The Apostle of Allah (peace_be_upon_him) fixed a handle on it with his own hands and said: Go, gather firewood and sell it, and do not let me see you for a fortnight. The man went away and gathered firewood and sold it. When he had earned ten dirhams, he came to him and bought a garment with some of them and food with the others.

The Apostle of Allah (peace_be_upon_him) then said: This is better for you than that begging should come as a spot on your face on the Day of Judgment. Begging is right only for three people: one who is in grinding poverty, one who is seriously in debt, or one who is responsible for compensation and finds it difficult to pay

Bukhari Volume 2, Book 24, Number 509:

Narrated Ibn 'Umar:

I heard Allah's Apostle (p.b.u.h) while he was on the pulpit speaking about charity, to abstain from asking others for some financial help and about begging others, saying, "The upper hand is better than the lower hand. The upper hand is that of the giver and the lower (hand) is that of the beggar."

the haters always like to say that Islam is a violent religion. then they will often point to ayahs of the Koran which promote violence. for example one of the most popular verses that is quoted is the following

Surah 2:191 And slay them wherever ye find them...

but lets read this in the whole verse and the verse before it

Surah 2:190 Fight in the way of Allah against those who fight against you, but begin not hostilities. Lo! Allah loveth not, aggressors

Surah 2:191 And slay them wherever ye find them, and drive them out of the places whence they drove you out, for persecution is worse than slaughter. And fight not with them at the Inviolable Place of Worship until they first attack you there, but if they attack you (there) then slay them. Such is the reward of disbelievers

wow. amazing isn't. when you read it in context it doesn't sound bad at all. when a person reads or quotes anybody or anything they should always do so in context. but we live in a time of prejudice and bias. the person has already decided what to think and then they will try to manipulate the situation for their purpose

notice that Allah says in ayah 2:190 that you are not to begin hostilities. in other words we can't start the fight, we can't only end it. Allah does not love the aggressors. those who start wars and cause fitna in the land are not loved by Allah

there is only two situations where fighting is permitted. number one is if you are a soldier and an invading army comes to conquer your land. number two is to if you are a solider in the army and you are sent to liberate a people from an oppressive ruler

sometimes the haters like to quote from Surah 8 or 9. these Surah were revealed during times of war and therefore pertain to war. Surah 9 specifically deals with those whom you have a peace treaty with and they break their treaty. refer to the first 4 verses of that Surah

many Muslims are born into secular families that use the title Muslim but don't have any understanding of the meaning. this is a direct result of colonization and more recent occupation of Muslim lands. these oppressors have made difficulties on the Muslims. so the result is a large population of uneducated Muslims immigrating from other countries. they are both uneducated in wordly matters and also in religious matters

but this is changing because of more books being printed and greater access to the internet. also with more worldly wealth colleges and universities are becoming more numerous. so many people who were born Muslim come to Islam in there early 20s. the biggest problem we are facing is uneducation but that is changing very rapidly

reverts to Islam are usually more pious because they have done a great deal of research into Islam. they study and study to make sure they are making the right choice. it is a very big dicision and many people born into Christian families face difficulties with their parents because of their decision. so a person converting must make sure that he is making the right decision

when a person studies Islam and the history of the Muslims and also about the prophet he can't help but to have a deep respect. someone who studies these things will come to appreciate the values and morals of this deen. therefore we find that of all those who are pious they also seem to be more knowledgable also. because the more a person learns about Islam then the more they love it

to those who were born Muslim and then come to Islam later in life, i consider them to be converts. because the prophet said the translated meaning that the difference between a believer and Kufar is the prayer. and on the day of judgement the angels will first look at the prayers of the Muslim and if he doesn't pray then they will not consider any of his other good deeds. so if someone grew up his whole life without praying even once and then becomes a pious person then i would consider them to be a convert. but that is just my opinion

remember that if we do not do the job then Allah will replace us with a people who are better than we are. and they will love him more than we do and they will fear him more than we do

and this is exactly what is happening. i can only speak for my own country, Canada. here what i have seen is that a lot of the older Muslims immigrated to this country to wordly benefits and not for the sake of their religion. what has happened is that these people have had lots of kids and now if you examine the youth they are very strong in their deen. in many cases they are doing dawah to their parents. all the Muslim youth ever talk about is to bring Islam back. all they talk about is Khalifah. Allah is replaces the bad Muslims with people who are better than them. it's only a matter of time before the western government are forced to adopt Islamic law. already many banks are looking at Islamic financing. it's only a matter of time now. and the only way to push us back down is by eliminated education

so do not forget about the Muslims when you are doing dawah. Muslims need dawah also. Muslims need Islam just as much as anyone else

Christian Book Burning

Sometimes today in a desperate attempt by the Christian evangelist we find the argument that the Koran is unreliable. This argument is completely flawed on many levels. If the Christian thinks that the Koran is unreliable based on this event in Islamic history then he must also assume that his own Bible is unreliable. Typically a Christian making this comparison will not have strong faith in the validity of their own book

It would be like a person knowing their religion is wrong but trying to prove that other religions are wrong also and putting them on a level plain. But the problem is that these two religions are not on the same plain at all. It is like a person saying “yes I know my religion is wrong but yours is wrong also”. Such a statement is ridiculous. Therefore a Christians does not have a solid foundation of attack in any debate using this silly argument. Therefore the comparison between the Christian book burning and the Uthmaan book burning is made in a defensive manner to try and save what little credibility that may be left

The Christian world has a real problem on their hands. That problem is that people are choosing to think rather than to follow blindly. As a result many people turn to atheism as they feel there is no other alternative. They feel that they have to choose between Christianity and Science and do not explore the realm of other possibilities as other religions are portrayed as strange and in many cases are portrayed as worse than Christianity. Since they have distaste and distrust of Christianity and they have been programmed to believe that all other religions are strange and less credible then Christianity they are slowing being driven towards secularism

One of the main reasons for this Christian apostasy is from an examination of their own text. Christianity has always been a strong force in the world until recently when the modern day Bible is in the hands of masses. It’s not only the contents of the book that drives them towards disbelief but also the fact that it is not based on a solid foundation. People are coming to realize that this text is completely unreliable

Christians today sometimes make the claim that their Bible is 99% accurate. They say this because of numerous problems with manuscripts and differences of opinion in regards to what should or should not be in the Bible. For example the story of the adulterous women has been removed and put back several times. Within the footnotes of most Bibles it will indicate that this story is not in the oldest and most reliable manuscripts. But rather than bickering over small verses or sections to determine the credibility of Bible, let us examine the actual books themselves and more specifically during the dark ages when the Christians used their power to subjugate the masses

For that we have to go back to the various councils of the Christians. Christian councils were chosen to determine what books should or should not be included into the Bible. Let us pause here for a moment and think about this. That means that in this period there was doubt already in regards to what was authentic and what was not authentic. You could end the argument right here. If the Christians thinks his books are accurate then what was the need for the councils? This is 100% proof that the Christians were in doubt about the accuracy of their texts in this period. If they were not in doubt then these councils would be useless. Obviously these councils were trying to solve a problem they had or the other possibility is that the councils were purposely trying to corrupt the Christian faith. We will let the Christian decide between the two, whether they were trying to corrupt Christianity or whether the councils were in doubt. Either way the result is disastrous for the Christian

But since I like to utterly crush and humble the arrogance of those who attack Islam let us continue on. When a study of these councils is done it is quickly realized that this was a bias act. For example, one of the criteria that the council had decided was that every book to be approved must have the story of the crucifixion in it. This is bias. Rather than going in with an open mind they instead had criteria to filter the books even before they knew which books are accurate. Instead of taking the scientific approach and study the chain of narrations as the Muslims have done with hadith and hadith sciences, the councils made criteria and used it as a filter to support their own agendas

These councils had an obvious agenda. And perhaps the brother of Jesus peace be upon him can give us some insight into this

Were the councils assembled by secret societies that infiltrated the Christians? Is that why only pagan gospels were chosen?

The Christians world was unable to verify their books the same way the Muslims have using hadith sciences because the Christians still don’t know who wrote the gospels or the letters of Paul. This is the condition that a hadith is labeled as accurate. They must know who wrote it. Not only to know the person but to know his character. Was he a liar, a thief, a rapist? When it comes to the books of the Bible nobody knows

The gospel of Thomas was excluded because it did not talk about the crucifixion of their god. Modern day scholars claim that the gospel of Thomas is more reliable than the gospel of John which was chosen to be in the Bible. Even some Christians today feel that this gospel of Thomas was unjustly labeled as heretic by early church leaders. Their argument is that the gospel of Thomas is a book of sayings and does not tell any of the stories of Jesus peace be upon him. It is only a collection of his sayings. So they argue that this gospel does not exclude the possibility of crucifixion nor does it confirm it. It simple leaves it out

The gospel of Mary was not selected to be in the Bible because it was written by a woman. Women during this period of Christianity were not respected and could never be seen as a scholar or a good source of knowledge. Therefore her gospel was not selected

On a side note one of the greatest hadith narrators is Ayesha who was a woman

There are many other gospels that were not selected based on the fact that they did not talk about the crucifixion. Historians say that the number of gospels in circulation during this time could have been in the thousands and it is unknown the amount of books that have been destroyed. So again let us pause for a second. They destroyed thousands of gospels because only four of them met their bias criteria? Thousands? And in the end only four talked about the crucifixion? Again the Christian’s logic is demolished

But let us continue on. What did the Church do after they selected the books of the New Testament? They deemed that anyone with a differing opinion must be executed and any books within the people possession must be destroyed. The ultimate in censorship. If a Christian ever gets upset about censorship then he should throw his Bible in the garbage as it is the result of the biggest event of censorship this world has ever known. Men were rounded up and murdered and their books burned. The church used force on the people to compel them to follow blindly. Book after book was destroyed and lost forever. The exact number of differing gospels is unknown and the majority of these texts are lost forever. Only a few have survived

Now we could stop there but it gets much worse. For the Christian it gets much much worse. The condition was a time when there was no alternative to the churches opinions. The only alternative to disbelief in the Bible was death. You had two choices. Death or to believe the Bible that they choose and make sure you did not have in your possession any other books with a different opinion. But here is where it gets worse. Even during this period you were not allowed to read the Bible they selected. Even though the masses were poor and uneducated and most couldn’t read anyway, the ruling class decided that you must be a priest to read the Bible. Only the priest had the right to read the Bible and it was his job to tell the people what it said. If you were caught with a Bible then you were killed because only the priest could own a Bible. Did they promote it and encourage people to read it and study from it. No, instead they kill you for reading it. And even today you find the largest sects of Christianity believe that it is only a priest who should read the Bible

To be fair, in our modern times there are lots of Christians who work hard to translate the Bible in many languages and spread it through the world for people to read however the largest sects in the world do not do this

When it comes to Islam, we of course know that we should be reading own book. The reward we receive for it is huge. And many people will give away Korans for free to their friends so that they can get ajar from Allah for encouraging good deeds

Now after discussing this issue with the Christian and pointing out the obvious flaws in the reliability of their Bible they are trapped, defeated and discouraged. I do feel sorry for them at this point. I do have a conscience after all

Usually by this point they have resorted to irrational explanations. And it is only natural when a person is being attacked to go on the counter attack. So they say that the Koran isn’t reliable because of the Uthmaan period

Really these two events cannot be compared. But they are desperate for anything. Like a drowning person grabbing on straws

Let us look at what happened during this period and point out obvious differences. The Koran is not like other books. It is a book that is memorized by millions today. And those who do not memorize the whole thing have memorized large portions of it. If you threw all the books into the ocean or burned all the libraries and books within in it, the Koran would be back in less than a week. It would be back in the same amount of time that it would take to recite it. In my mind this is the fundamental difference between the preservation of other books and the preservation of the Koran

During the lifetime of the prophet it was written down in written format. And many of the companions memorized it in oral format. And during the first caliphate, Abu Bakr had the Koran written down on high quality goat skins

The different dialects were causing division among the Ummah. These were not different version of the Koran this was different dialects

So Uthmaan called for the original written format of the Koran which was written in the time of Abu Bakr. From that he made copies and sent them throughout the empire. He also sent with them a teacher to teach proper pronunciation of the Arabic words

And reading this book was encouraged. All other manuscripts were turned over voluntarily to be burned to safeguard the Koran from corruption because of the differences in the dialects. But the bottom line is that the Koran was preserved orally and only written down for people like me who have not memorized it yet. Preserving it in written form was only secondary method of preservation. The primary method of preservation was by memorization. The writing it down into one book and one dialect made it possible for others to memorize it

So with the Koran we have a chain of proof. First it was written in the time of the prophet and then an official copy made during the time of Abu Bakr. And then in the time of Uthmaan official copies were sent out to the regions. A clear chain going back to the prophet. Where as other religious books can not trace the lineage of their books to authentic sources. And more specifically in the case of Christianity they had numerous differences within the gospels regarding fundamental issue such as crucifixion

Although other religions have doubt regarding their books. The Koran is one book in which there is no doubt

Surah 2:2 This is the Scripture whereof there is no doubt, a guidance unto those who ward off (evil).

The Koran has always been in the hands of the people and the Bible has always been in the hands of the rulers

Reiki is a the act of healing a person by spiritual power. Although there is no scientific proof for it, many believers use it as a supplement to therapy. Usui Mikao is the founder of this belief system. He claimed to have this miraculous healing power after spending three weeks in fasting on a mountain. The purpose is to heal mental, emotional and physical ailments

Healing sessions resemble those done by the Christians where hands are placed on the sick person and a healing force goes into them

Christians are laying hands on people as a result of their Bible teaching them to do so. For example many verses in the Bible indicate that was the method that Jesus peace be upon him used to heal people

Mark 6:5 He could not do any miracles there, except lay his hands on a few sick people and heal them

It is funny that Christians will reject Reiki and label it as witchcraft whereas their healing practices are almost identical under a different name

Since Shirk can be broken down into three categories we can examine the Reiki system to identify how and why it goes against the fundamentals of Islamic tawheed

First off the Reiki system does not attribute its healing power to God. A Muslim must believe that both the good and bad ultimately come from him. Even if the whole of humanity were to gather to try and harm you, they would not be able to do it unless Allah had already destined for that thing to occur and vise versa. So if a Muslim believes that a healing is coming about by some mystical power then they have denied that the will of Allah is supreme. How can someone believe the good and bad ultimately come from Allah and also belief in mystical super powers? In assuming that this system has power over the creation it goes against tawheed of Allah’s lordship. What the person is doing is establishing a partner to Allah. Instead of asking Allah for help and healing the person has deviated and is using a system under which they feel they can heal the person with a mystical force. So this force has become a subtle form of idolatry. They have given Allah a partner. Even if they believe that this mystic force is lesser than Allah this is still shirk by association and is no different than many religions that have greater and lesser gods

If Allah is the lord over all things then we should turn to him for help. That doesn’t mean that we avoid medical treatment because as we know it is the Sunnah of the prophet to try to cure your sicknesses. It is fine to try and heal yourself and others using medications or methods by which is prescribed by Allah. But when it comes to use of spiritual or religion rituals then this is an innovation and is clear shirk

This also is shirk by negation because it does not indicate the existence of Allah. Therefore since it does not indicate that Allah exists subliminally they are suggesting that it is not important whether he exists or doesn’t exist. Similarly Buddhism falls into this category also, as does Janism. These are all philosophies which commit shirk by negation because they do not specify a belief in God. Therefore Reiki is shirk of Allah’s Lordship

Regarding shirk in worship of Allah, Reiki is a clear example of that

The prophet peace be upon him indicated in a hadith that the Christians and Jews had taken their leaders as gods and used to worship them because the leaders made halal things haram and haram things halal and the people had blindly followed their rulings. Since we know that magic is haram then anyone who follows a person who says that it is halal has committed shirk be worshipping that person

I don’t think that anybody would argue that Reiki is clearly a form of magic. Magic in Islam is forbidden and the punishments are strict for those who offend this commandment. Usui however has made these rituals of magic something that is halal. So if a Muslim is following these teachings then it is shirk the same way the Christians and Jews committed shirk. They have worshiped that person instead of Allah

Living in the west I have met one among the kufar who strongly believed in Reiki. And her love for it replaced the love of God. This is an act of shirk in worship of Allah because Allah has stated in the Koran

Surah 25:43 Seest thou such a one as taketh for his god his own passion (or impulse)? Couldst thou be a disposer of affairs for him?

The majority of people practices Reiki do so out of intrigue and desire for it. This is their main motivating factor since there is no proof to support it. Of course it is natural to be curious of the unknown but those who practice Reiki have a love for it. This is clear shirk because they do not have love for Allah and have taken for a god something in this life that they love. As per Allah’s statement in the previous ayah that I quoted this is classified as shirk

Another proof that loving something more than Allah is shirk can be found in Allah’s statement

Surah 2:165 Yet there are men who take (for worship) others besides Allah, as equal (with Allah.: They love them as they should love Allah…

If those who practice Reiki were to have some calamity strike them so that fear were to enter their heart they would probably not even think about their supposed healing powers to save them. They would automatically and naturally call out to Allah for help. They would reject their beliefs and embrace tawheed

Surah 6:40 Say: "Think ye to yourselves, if there come upon you the wrath of Allah, or the Hour (that ye dread), would ye then call upon other than Allah.- (reply) if ye are truthful!

Reiki is the appealing to another power other than Allah but when some horrible disaster comes they would only appeal to Allah. This is proof that they commit shirk in worship of Allah

Surah 22:71 Yet they worship, besides Allah, things for which no authority has been sent down to them, and of which they have (really) no knowledge: for those that do wrong there is no helper

In the previously quoted ayah Reiki is a perfect example of those who worship besides Allah. No authority has come down to them to heal in this manner and they have no knowledge regarding this matter. Since this is the case it is an innovation

The purpose of yoga is to unite one self with the supreme consciousness. Depending on the type of yoga practiced some even believe that they can achieve immortality within their physcial body. What that means is that they will try and live forever on this earth. This claim is silly as there is no proof whatsoever for it. A person might be inclined to believe that a spiritual immortality could be achieved but to believe that the physical body can become immortal is delusional since there is evidence to the contrary. The evidence is in the fact that people die and they do not become immortal

Yoga falls into shirk the same way that Sufism does. Both these beliefs seek to unite the soul with God or as the yogis call it the supreme consciousness. This is shirk in lordship because it falls into the category of negation. A person might ask how they are negating the belief in God since they teach a belief in a god. It is not like Buddhism which in its teachings neglect to mention whether there is a god or outright denial. But Sufism and yoga both are just as guilty of shirk by negation. They believe that Allah can become part of the creation itself. When a person makes such a statement what this really means is that there is no God. For example if I am Allah or one with Allah then he is not superior to anything and therefore cannot be God. God be definition is the greatest and most superior to all things. This is part of tawheed of his lordship. A person must believe that Allah is superior otherwise how could the person believe in tawheed of his lordship? So yoga is an act of shirk in regards to Allah’s lordship by negation of Allah

This is shirk in lordship because it says that you can unite with God. You can become one with God. Therefore those who are advanced within that religion would be seen as equals to Allah or as they call it, the supreme consciousness

Yoga is also shirk of names and attributes of Allah. Some Shiites believe that Ali was a manifestation of Allah. They had given him the attribute of Allah. In a similar way the yoga belief that a person can unify with the supreme consciousness or in other words unite with God is basically saying that a person can obtain the attributes of God. Sufis also have this belief that they can unite with God and become one with God. Therefore they are given the characteristics of the creator to themselves. Likewise yoga does those same things. It indicates that becoming one with the greater power which they call the supreme consciousness. This is attributing to a human being what only is for Allah. We are the inferior and Allah is the superior

Although this is a Hindu practice, in the west yoga is practiced as an exercise. It has absolutely no spiritual or religion significant. If a Muslim were to sign up for yoga classes in the west there is not harm in doing this except that imitation of a people is wrong. People imitate other people that they want to be like and could be considered a form of worship. So for the Muslim to imitate the Hindu practice of yoga even though he does it for exercise it is an act of shirk

In Arabic the term ibadah comes from the root word meaning slave. To imitate a people and trying to be like another people is like being a slave to your own desires

In this Ayah it is said that some people take their desires as a god. To imitate a people would mean that you are following your desires and allowing them to rule your life. Your desires would then rule how you act and how you dress. Literally by imitation the person has become a slave to their desires and is considered to be worshipping their desires. Imitation is therefore an act of shirk in worship of Allah

Islam is unique from other religions in that it rejects all forms of shirk which lead to corruption. Tawheed is the reason why millions of people take shahadah. This was the main reason for my reversion to Islam because when I read the Koran I could see that it was such a pure and clean message. It was not tainted with shirk like other religions. It was so pure. Allah was so powerful and unique. I could see that anyone who follows this book could never be led astray. We are in debt to Allah because he has given us the gift of Islam. Tawheed stops a person from going away from the straight path

the niqaab is extra. the hijab is compulsory for women

'Aisha used to say: "When (the Verse): "They should draw their veils over their necks and bosoms," was revealed, (the ladies) cut their waist sheets at the edges and covered their faces with the cut pieces."

i would suggest that women take the advice of Aisha and use a seperate piece of clothe to cover the face

men must cover from their knees to their belly buttons. however for a man it is better for his to cover his chest and also to wear long sleeves. the minimum is only the area between the knees however a man would receive an extra reward for covering and wearing long sleeves

a women should wear niqaab for the extra reward in doing that. however she can show her face to a future fiancee if he wants to see what she looks like or in the situation of a court case, or a transaction where the face is nessasary for identification. for example voting in Canada a women must show her face to be identified with her drivers license. so this is allowed for her to show her face so that she can vote if she chooses to do that. in that situation it is best for her to be identified by a women. if there are no women to identify her then it is ok for a man to identify her. in regards to medical treatment it is ok for the doctor to look at any part of the body which is affected by the illness in the situation where no female doctor is available. the women should request a female doctor and female nurses, however if they are not available then a man doctor may be used to examine only the part of the body affected by the illness. for example the doctor may need to take blood pressure on the upper part of the arm or he may need to remove the shirt of a female who was involved in a car accident - (this is the opinion of the scholars)

during the hajj it is forbidden for a women to wear Niqaab or gloves

the Messenger of Allaah (peace be upon him) said: “The woman who is in ihraam must not wear niqaab or gloves.”

however during the hajj a women may grab part of her hijab and use it to cover her face when men are close to her if she feels uncomfortable, however she is forbidden to take a seperate piece of clothe to cover her face or hands

women who wear short skirts and showing off their private parts do so with the intentions of getting attention from men. they will also do this in the work place to help them advance in their careers. essentially what they are doing is selling their bodies for wordly gains. but the hijabi is not for sale. she is dignified and honourable in the sight of men. men are forced to deal with her personality and jugements are not made based on aperance. in our society many women have self image problems in which they don't feel good about their bodies. the media causes women to feel insufficient. the hijabi is the most beautiful women in the world! why because it shows their love for Allah and that they will not comprimise for the sake of fitting into an emoral society. the prophet peace be upon him in a popular hadith has said that if you imitate a people then you are one of them. so why should a person dress like a famous actor? are we following the sunnah of the actors. no! God forbid that we do such a filthy thing

in the west, women have been discriminated against, and even attacked in the streets for no other reason than they wear the hijab. i have seen pictures on the internet of pulling off the hijab of our sisters

this is hypocracy. they say a women has the right to wear whatever she wants however they will not allow her to wear hijab

so in conclusion: the minimum requirement is the covering of the whole body except the face and hands which is know as the hijab. the covering of the whole body except the eyes is extra reward and is known as the niqab

however it is best that you do your own research lest i am responsible for leading anybody astray. it is best to look at the fatwas given and the reasons why the fatwa was given. you should always look at the proofs that the scholars give to support their opinion

I have always understood the logic of God. For a creation to take place there has to be a creator. This is a common argument from Christians today and I use it a lot. If you can see something such as a toaster then it is irational to assume that the toaster created itself or that nothing caused it to come into being. I did not know that this was Platos philosophy

When I read the translation of the Koran for the first time. One ayah really stuck out. Were they created from nothing or were they themselves the creator. I could not put it into better words than this. I have been using those exact words since I read that. I have had two atheists tell me so far that they believe my religion is true however they don’t want to convert because they would rather drink alcohol and have girlfriends. So the argument is flawless. Nobody can answer that without admitting there is a God. Since nothing creates nothing and therefore something has to create something

After reading the matterial in this module I have a new weapon in my arsenal. Sometimes atheists like to say that the universe always existed. If God can be eternal than so can the universe. However this is an impossibilty. Because if the universe was brought by a series of cause and effect then you would have to assume that an infinate amount of causes and effects have taken place. If it is infinate then that is impossible because the amount of time for an infinate amount of causes and effects to take place would be infinate and therefore logically never take place

A closer study of hadith Jibreel helped to understand the foundation in which Islam is on. Other religions lack this solid foundation. the question that Allah asks them is this. were they created of nothing meaning. did they spontaneously apear. where did the universe come from? nothing creates nothing. somthing has to create something. so they have two choices. either Allah always existed or the universe always existed. if the universe always existed then why do scientists say it's changing

see, this goes back to what i was saying about Allah being the all wise. how can they answer that question? where did the universe come from? is it magic. spontaneous creation. no. that is not logical. it is logical that Allah is the creator who gave us life when we were dead. we were dead before we were alive and Allah brought us to life

MFIC Module 1 - What did I learn

What did I learn? After studying this module I learned that America is more interested in secularism than in democracy. As a child and youth I believed that the media was credible and reliable for information on all aspects of life. So it is no wonder that I carried with me the belief that American government seeks at it utmost agenda to spread democracy for the purpose to help the rest of the world. I am quickly learning how I have been deceived by the medias that I trusted. Even within the school text books our recent history is written in such a way to suggest that America is fighting wars for the purpose to spread their democratic ideas and hence liberate people from their oppressive rulers. I remember studying in school about proxy wars fought between the Russians and America. Many of these wars and conflicts were said to be over the two ideologies of communism and democracy. Although this may be true or untrue, our school text books do not represent the bigger picture. America’s prime agenda is in promoting secularism. A great example is that America did nothing as the democratic process was overpowered in Algeria by military coup. The Islamic party was sure to win the elections

I have been studying the effect of Roman and Greece influence on our society however this module helped to fill in some of missing puzzle pieces. I did not know that the primary ritual of the Greek idol worshippers was sacrifices

I learned definitions such as deism. And I was given small insight into the understanding between our “clash of civilizations”

3 Customs of the Muslims

In the name of Allah, the most gracious, the most merciful

3 customs of the Muslims which will be discussed in this assignment

- 1) Worshiping other things besides Allah

- 2) Following pagan holidays

- 3) Shaving the beard

After my reversion to Islam I had only met Muslims who lived here in Canada. I found them to be very sincere and good people. My previous perception of Muslims was a reflection of what I had seen on the media. Once I was able to meet Muslims and see what they were like, I fell in love with them. These are a people who fear Allah, forbid what is evil and promote what is good. They pray and fast and do not take short cuts in their religion. The Muslims are those who believe in monotheism and take it to the extreme. They are so strict in their monotheism. These are people who would never worship anything besides Allah. They are truly the most wonderful people on the earth and I felt insecure that I would not be able to achieve their level of goodness. I felt that I could not be as good as them

I was on my way to the hajj and I remember thinking that the only trial I will experience is a physical hardship from the heat and excessive walking. However I am young and healthy and I do well in extreme heat. So I was not expecting any trials at all. I knew that where I was going non Muslims were forbidden to go. Therefore nothing could go wrong. Because at the time I knew that Muslims were the best of people based on my experience with the Muslims in Canada

Wallahi the greatest trial was seeing innovation in the religion when I was there. I was confused. I thought only Muslims were allowed there and I know that Muslims strictly forbid these innovations. I soon realized the difference between a cultural Muslim and a Muslim who had Islam in their heart. It is not my place to judge, these things are only based on outward appearance but Allah knows the intentions of their hearts

Of all the customs in the Muslim world the one which is the most filthy is the worship of other things besides Allah. When I was making tawaf I saw people rubbing their canes, knee braces and things such as their hats on the Kabah as if the Kabah held some type of power which a person could rub off onto a certain item. They would kiss it and try to rub their whole bodies on it. People would kiss station Ibrahim. I saw one person at mount Safra rubbing a pillar with his hand and then rubbing his face and he would rub it in such a way that it appeared as if he was receiving energy from it. One of the hajj guards saw this and chased him away. When I went to Madinah and to the prophet's grave we passed through to see it and continued on our way. When we got to the outside again their was a group of Muslims who had changed the direction of the qibla towards the prophets gave. They were praying and making duah towards the grave of the prophet peace be upon him. I could not understand what they were saying because I don’t speak Arabic however I fear that they were praying to the prophet instead of Allah. It was things such as these that made me so angry and sad that it brought me to tears. What is wrong with this Ummah? Why has it become the custom to worship other things besides Allah? The Kabah, the black stone, and the grave of the prophet peace be upon him have become idols for the Muslims

First let us define what is meant by the word worship. The word worship generally applies to a situation where an object or person is giving adoration or reverence. Therefore when applied to Islamic theology, any object or person given undue adoration or reverence is committing shirk

Allah has stated in Surah 2:29 It is He Who hath created for you all things that are on earth…

Also in Surah 6:101 …He created all things…

Based on these two ayahs a person can conclude that all things on earth are created things. The Kabah, the black Stone and the prophet peace be upon him are all creations of Allah. It is he who has created them. If Allah has created everything then it is only Allah that is eternal. Anything and everything is created and therefore has a beginning. Allah is the only thing which is not created and creates all things

Allah has said in Surah 6:102 That is Allah, your Lord! there is no god but He, the Creator of all things: then worship ye Him: and He hath power to dispose of all affairs

Allah has commanded that we worship him alone as per his statement in the above ayah which indicates there is no god except for him and therefore worship should be for him alone. Even from a logical standpoint a person knows that there is only one God and that we should not worship anything other than that. Worship is the adoration and reverence of things. Therefore to offer adoration to the stone and to the Kabah and to the prophet’s dead body is sinful and an act of Shirk

Sahih Bukhari Volume 2, Book 26, Number 667: Narrated 'Abis bin Rabia: 'Umar came near the Black Stone and kissed it and said "No doubt, I know that you are a stone and can neither benefit anyone nor harm anyone. Had I not seen Allah's Apostle kissing you I would not have kissed you."

Clearly the kissing of the stone is not an act of worship. The stone is simple a stone. There is no power that is giving off for the person who kisses it. It is similar to those people who kiss their kids or their wife. Are they worshipping their wife and kids? No of course not. Or it similar to someone who kisses the ground after being on a ship that almost sinks because of a severe storm

Is it any wonder that the stone has turned black? The stone came from paradise and used to be bright and shine from one horizon to the other and Adam peace be upon him used to make tawaf around it because he missed Jennah. However because of the sins of mankind the stone has become dark.

In regards to rubbing yourself and other things on the Kabah then it is clear that this is contrary to the sunnah of the prophet peace be upon him

Volume 2, Book 26, Number 676: Narrated Nafi': Ibn 'Umar. said, "I have never missed the touching of these two stones of Ka'ba (the Black Stone and the Yemenite Corner) both in the presence and the absence of crowds, since I saw the Prophet touching them."

The Prophet had only touched those two corners when making tawaf. He did not rub his body all over the Kabah and did not rub his clothes on it either. There is no proof in the religion to do this

The prayer to any other than Allah is disobedience to Allah and it will not be accepted of them. Therefore nobody should pray to the prophet

Surah 13:14 For Him (alone) is prayer in Truth: any others that they call upon besides Him hear them no more than if they were to stretch forth their hands for water to reach their mouths but it reaches them not…

Another custom of some Muslims has been adopted from the Christian influence. For example the celebration of Christmas, Halloween, and Birthdays

The origin of celebrating birthdays was from the Europeans who were a superstitious people. They believed that evil spirits were attracted to people on their birthday. So the Europeans wanted to help protect people from these evil spirits and therefore, friends and family would gather around and go to the home of the person whose birthday it is and bring good thought and wishes to them. Giving gifts would help to ward off the spirits and the bigger the gift the better. The origins of Halloween can be traced back to the druids among the Celtic people. It was a celebration in honor of their god. Part of their rites was that they would burn animals alive which would give them the ability to look into the future. They would also dress in terrifying customs so that the spirits would be tricked into thinking you were one of them

The origins of Christmas originates from pagan mythology regarding the winter solstice

We are not suppose to integrate or to copy. The prophet on many ocasions said to be different from the pagans

Allah has said in Surah 45:18 Then We put thee on the (right) Way of Religion: so follow thou that (Way), and follow not the desires of those who know not

If a Muslim believes that prophet Muhammed peace be upon him is a prophet and they believe that he is on the straight way such as mention in Surah 45:18 then why should we adopted something other than that? Did the prophet ever celebrate these holidays? Therefore it is not beneficial for us to celebrate them

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Whoever imitates a people is one of them.” Narrated by Abu Dawood

These celebration did not originate from the Muslims or Islam and therefore to imitate it is haram and when a person does so they become one of those people. If a person imitates the Jews then he has become a Jew. If he imitates the Christians then he is one of them. We imitate our beloved prophet peace be upon him and therefore we belong to his ummah

Today it is the custom of people to shave their beards and to become clean shaven. Although there is a difference in opinion in regards to how long the beard must be, we are forbidden from shaving it clean

Volume 9, Book 93, Number 651: Narrated Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri: The Prophet said, "There will emerge from the East some people who will recite the Qur'an but it will not exceed their throats and who will go out of (renounce) the religion (Islam) as an arrow passes through the game, and they will never come back to it unless the arrow, comes back to the middle of the bow (by itself) (i.e., impossible). The people asked, "What will their signs be?" He said, "Their sign will be the habit of shaving (of their beards). (Fateh Al-Bari, Page 322, Vol. 17th)

Do I need to say more? I fear for those who clean shave. This is a sign that they are not on the straight path. This hadith does not mean that if you shave your beard then you are outside the fold of Islam. This hadith is simple saying that there will come a people who recite the Koran however it means nothing to them and therefore have left Islam. The sign of these people is the shaving of the beard

The prophet instructed his followers to trim the mustache and to let the beard grow

Volume 7, Book 72, Number 781: Narrated Ibn 'Umar: Allah's Apostle said, "Cut the moustaches short and leave the beard (as it is)."

Volume 7, Book 72, Number 780: Narrated Nafi': Ibn Umar said, The Prophet said, 'Do the opposite of what the pagans do. Keep the beards and cut the moustaches short.' Whenever Ibn 'Umar performed the Hajj or 'Umra, he used to hold his beard with his hand and cut whatever moustaches. Ibn Umar used to cut his moustache so short that the whiteness of his skin (above the upper lip) was visible, and he used to cut (the hair) between his moustaches and his beard

Does anything more need to be said on this matter. These two hadiths clearly state that a person should grow their beard so that it is at least visible. Someone who shaves is disobeying the prophet and going against the sunnah. But today we even find Muslims in high positions of this dunya who shave. They are a bad example to their followers. But Allah knows best and it is he who knows the intentions of the heart

In conclusion we do not need anything else added to Islam or taken away. It is complete

Surah 5:3 …This day have I perfected your religion for you, completed My favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion…

It is complete and has been perfected for us. This is of the favours of Allah that we don’t not need to wonder or guess at things we should do. Allah has given us this system and way of life. There is no way of life greater than ours and therefore imitation, incorporation and innovation in matters of religion is hypocrisy. But Allah knows best
