Answer =
Based on my research there is no Ayah of Koran or any hadith to suggest that Noah's flood covered the whole earth. Allah says in the Koran that it was a flood. So this is the only thing we know. We know there was a flood but we don't know how big it was.
Surah 7:64 But they rejected him, and We delivered him, and those with him, in the Ark: but We overwhelmed in the flood those who rejected Our signs. They were indeed a blind people!
Surah 10:73 They rejected Him, but We delivered him, and those with him, in the Ark, and We made them inherit (the earth), while We overwhelmed in the flood those who rejected Our Signs. Then see what was the end of those who were warned (but heeded not)!
Surah 11:37 "But construct an Ark under Our eyes and Our inspiration, and address Me no (further) on behalf of those who are in sin: for they are about to be overwhelmed (in the flood)."
There are a few more Ayah similar to these ones but none of them indicate a worldwide flood. As a Muslim we must believe that a flood happened however we are not required to believe that it covered the entire earth.
Many cultures around the world have recorded this event and therefore it was likely a big flood. Christian creationists have show sea fossils on the top of huge mountains. Scientists have indicated that there is not enough water on earth to cover the whole thing. So a number of possibilities exist. For example maybe the water has sunk down to the center of the earth or evaporated into space some how. Perhaps at the time of Noah peace be upon him there was enough water. Only Allah knows.
Christian creationists believe that the mountains were formed later and that is why they have the sea fossils on them and therefore there would be enough water to cover the earth.
Personally I believe that it was a local flood only.

I would also favor idea that it was local---because God is just, compassionate and merciful-and a "Just" God would not drown innocents---only those who did not "heed the warnings".....
ReplyDeleteWhy was the flood sent? It was sent as a punishment for all those who were acting corruptly, they were in sin. So how did Noah and the others inherit the Earth if there were still sinners around? The flood destroyed mankind, except for Noaha and his family. Therefore, it is likely that it was global.
ReplyDeletemankind had not ventured out of the middle east at this stage of history as noah was around 10th generation descendant of adam
